The nonsense of the year 2022 is “climate terrorists”. This was announced on Tuesday by the language critical ‘unword’ campaign in Marburg, Germany. The term conceals criticism of the criminalization of climate activists.
The phrase is now being used in the public debate to discredit activists and their protests for more climate protection. And the jury, largely made up of linguists, criticizes this practice because activists are “assimilated to terrorists and therefore criminalized and defamed”.
Rather, it is climate sinners who should be called climate terrorists, proponents say. The “non-word” poll, which has been running since 1991, is designed to draw attention to inappropriate language.
“Social tourism” in 2nd place
The phrase ‘social tourism’, which had been declared non-word in 2013, came second. CDU leader Friedrich Merz used the word last September in reference to refugees from Ukraine and later apologized for it.
