At the diving site Ofen on Lake Attersee in Upper Austria, a man may have started his dive and then had problems. A passing driver saw the diver floating on the surface. The emergency services arrived too late.
Shortly before 3 p.m., a driver saw a lifeless person floating in the water of the Attersee and immediately alerted the emergency services. A large contingent of emergency services drove to Steinbach am Attersee to the area of the diving entry point Ofen. Divers from the fire department were able to swim the lifeless man ashore.

The emergency services tried everything to save the diver’s life, but they had to stop the resuscitation measures in vain. As a precaution, the helpers also searched for a possible diving colleague. However, no objects were found near the victim’s parked car – in the parking lot of the Ofen dive site – that could indicate another diver.
The diver’s identity and background, such as whether it was a diving accident or a medical emergency, are not yet known.
