The Ukrainian army is preparing for a possible new attack by Russian ground forces from Belarus in the direction of the capital Kiev. Defense positions in the north of the country have already been prepared or reinforced for this purpose, the lieutenant general responsible for the defense of Kiev announced on Tuesday.
To prevent the rapid advance of tanks by Russian units, larger minefields were laid at all points accessible to tanks. If the attackers couldn’t get through these barriers, it would be easier for Ukrainian artillery to destroy troop concentrations, they said.
Already at the start of the Russian offensive war in February last year, the Ukrainian armed forces repulsed an advance of Russian troops from Belarus (Belarus) towards Kiev. A mile-long column of Russian tanks and vehicles was decimated in the dense forests north of Kiev and forced to retreat.
The Ukrainian leadership fears a new attack by the Russian army, which has been stationing stronger units along the Ukrainian border in Belarus for several weeks. Military experts believe that Russian units in Belarus are not yet strong enough to carry out such an attack. Nevertheless, they tie up Ukrainian troops, which are missing from other front sections.
