An individual stabs six people in a train station in Paris

Date:

The attacker was killed by police after injuring his victims and “between life and death” is debated.

Six people have been injured with a knife, one of them seriously, in one of the main train stations in Paris, the Gare du Nord. The attack is believed to have happened around 6:40am this morning and the attacker is being tossed between “life and death” in a hospital after being killed by police.

Two officers located in the popular Estación del Norte opened fire and fired three times at the individual to try to shrink him down. He allegedly attacked the victims with a homemade knife for unknown reasons. Among them is a border police officer, who suffered minor injuries.

The interior minister, Gérald Darmanin, has traveled to the Gare du Nord together with the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, to thank the police for their “quick and courageous” intervention, without which the number of victims could have been elderly. «At 6:42 am, a person, extremely threatening, attacks people at the entrance and in the Gare du Nord. At 6:43 a.m., he was neutralized by plainclothes police officers who had just finished their shift at the prefectural police to return home and by border police officers who were at their posts,” explained Darmanin.

The attacker, who according to Darmanin is “between life and death”, did not have his papers with him, so his identity is not known at this time. The minister has not confirmed “rumours” that the individual may have shouted anything at the time of the attack, preferring to err on the side of caution and await more details on the ongoing investigation.

The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for “attempted murder”, which is headed by the judicial police. At the moment, the anti-terrorist prosecutor has not taken up the case.

The IGPN, the Interior Department of the French police, has also opened an investigation, as usual in these cases, as the officers who intervened to reduce the attacker used their firearms.

Located in the north of the French capital, the Gare du Nord is one of the main train stations in France and Europe. Numerous high-speed trains, both national and international, depart from there, including the Eurostar, the convoy that connects Paris and London via the Eurotunnel, the rail tunnel that crosses the English Channel.
