Anti-terror units have launched an investigation after the discovery of uranium in a package at London’s Heathrow Airport. According to Scotland Yard, a “very small amount of contaminated material” was found during a routine inspection of a package that arrived in the UK in late December.
“I want to reassure the public that the amount of contaminated material found was very small and was assessed by experts as not threatening the public,” said Richard Smith of the anti-terror unit.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, there is no immediate threat
Even the British Home Office does not assume an immediate threat in connection with the find. Initially there were no arrests. According to media reports, the package originally came from Pakistan.
Scrap was in a suspicious package
The researchers investigated, among other things, whether the uranium could have ended up in the package due to careless handling, because scrap was allegedly transported in the package.
