The 21-year-old was arrested by police before Christmas and has been in custody ever since. The public prosecutor’s office in Linz has now completed the charges against the young man, the ORF reports early Wednesday afternoon. The Syrian must answer in court for serious communal violence and attempted serious bodily harm. He faces up to three years in prison.
The 21-year-old Syrian asylum seeker (he cannot be deported) is said to have verbally and with hand gestures incited the rioters to riot. During the interrogation, the young man sneered: “The police enjoyed it too.” A 19-year-old Spaniard is also detained. He threw stones and fireworks at officers.
