After ten days, the search for Matthias M. in the sea off Bali must be stopped. The Austrian’s family is desperate and criticizes the authorities.
Already on January 3, Matthias M. was pulled into the sea by a wave on a dream beach on the Indonesian island of Nusa Penida while trying to help a swimmer in distress (reports the “Krone”). To date, the searches for the Lower Austrian have failed – the mission is now stopped.
In desperation, the family of the missing contacted the “Krone”. The State Department should do more to ensure that the search does not stop after ten days. “They have to search from the air,” the 42-year-old’s sister demands. “It can’t fail because of financial problems.”
Even before Matthias M. was pulled into the sea by the waves, people had already died on the beach. “Because that is harmful to tourism, they do nothing,” criticizes the Lower Austrian. She also spoke to a local woman who confirmed that tourists are still being sent to the beach.
A week before her brother’s accident, a Malaysian woman drowned on Diamond Beach, and shortly afterwards a tourist boat capsized in the waves. “It’s a death beach!” Even though her brother may have died a hero, she doesn’t want other vacationers to have accidents. The State Department would “feed” the bereaved. “You always hear: it’s difficult, but you do something anyway…” – far too little, says Matthias M.’s family.
Falling to death through closed window
About 3000 kilometers north of the Balinese ‘Death Beach’, another Austrian drama: tourist Mario F. fell four floors from his hotel room in the metropolis of Bangkok. All help came too late for the red-white-red victim.
Mysterious: According to the authorities, the 49-year-old fell through the closed window. Or maybe even bumped into it. The police investigation is still ongoing – the evaluation of the surveillance cameras must show whether Mario F. was alone before the fatal fall.
