Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksy Reznikov considers his country a de facto member of NATO. “We have weapons and the knowledge to use them,” the minister said. He does not find this point of view controversial: “It is a fact.” He also hopes that his country will soon formally join the Western Defense Alliance.
Resnikov was also optimistic about deliveries of other weapon systems from the West, according to the BBC. He was sure that his country would get “tanks, fighter planes and also weapons with a range of 300 kilometers”.
The reason for this assumption is that fears of an escalation of conflict among Western allies are diminishing, Resnikov said.
Attack wave of the Wagner mercenary group
Regarding the conflicting reports of a Russian capture of the disputed eastern Ukrainian city of Soledar, he said the situation there was “very difficult but under control”. Fighters of the Russian mercenary group Wagner (see video above) attacked in one wave after another, suffering heavy casualties.
The background is possible economic interests of Wagner boss Yevgeny Priogschin in the salt mines in the city.
