The US military has no explanation for numerous sightings of unidentified flying objects. Some of these “unidentified aerial phenomena” (UAP) would show “unusual flight characteristics or performance” and required further analysis, the Pentagon said Thursday (local time). In concrete terms, this concerns 171 newly evaluated observations.
That’s according to a new report from the Pentagon to Congress, which includes 247 new sightings since March 2021. In addition, 119 other events that had not been previously evaluated were analyzed.
Drones, balloons and plastic bags
About 200 reports were rated as “inconspicuous,” the report said. They may be traced back to common objects in the sky – such as drones, balloons and debris such as plastic bags.
In June 2021, the US secret services had submitted a report on UAP for the first time. This showed that there were no explanations for about 140 celestial phenomena of the past two decades. In December, the Pentagon said it had found no evidence of extraterrestrial life before the release of the new report.
Unexplained celestial phenomena are piling up
However, the number of reports of unexplained celestial phenomena has increased, the report said. However, some UAP incidents can be the result of sensor anomalies or equipment failures. Last summer, André Carson, chairman of the House Counterintelligence subcommittee, said, “EAPs are inexplicable, that’s true. But they are real. They must be investigated.’ It was the first congressional hearing in decades.
