The oil company Exxon already knew in 1977 that climate change and all its fatal consequences would befall humanity – and did nothing. A study by Harvard University and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research in the journal Science made headlines on Thursday: It found that the American company Exxon already knew 46 years ago how climate change would affect it. Like the entire oil industry, Exxon also knew its own role and relevance. Yet Exxon has deliberately downplayed those assumptions for decades.
