Happy ending for the cat from the canal in Klein St. Paul in Carinthia. The firefighters spent 21 hours building a wooden scaffold and were finally able to lure the shy velvet leg out of the shaft.
Firefighters have big hearts. The comrades of the Little St. Paul fire department worked 21 hours for a small kitten to lure the frightened animal out of the shaft. As reported, the fire brigade was alerted on Saturday evening because a pathetic meow could be heard from a manhole. A wooden scaffold was built so that the bundle of fur could climb out. But the rescue operation lasted no less than 21 hours.
“We tried to lure the poor thing out of the manhole with salmon and extra sausage. Then we used catnip,” report rescuers Thomas and Florian Posch of the volunteer fire department in Klein St. Paul. The rescue was finally successful shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday. The little velvet paws might just be a shy stray cat without a home.
She gets a nice home with fire chief Harald Trittesser. Sabine Hohenecker, who welcomed the rescue, is also happy for the fire brigade.
