On Friday afternoon, 27 fire brigades fought the flames in several warehouses in the market town of Michelhausen (district of Tulln in Lower Austria). Now the cause of the major fire could be traced.
The major fire is believed to have started due to a technical defect. The investigators of the State Criminal Investigation Service of Lower Austria came to this conclusion on Sunday. The electricity on a meter box in one of the halls is believed to be the cause of the fire. A police spokesman said it is highly unlikely that third-party debts could be ruled out.
The oil storage fire broke out at 1 p.m. on Friday at an industrial estate in Spital, a cadastral district of Michelhausen, in Tullnerfeld. Three warehouses, in which vehicles and several thousand liters of fuel oil were stored, burned out completely. A total of 27 fire brigades with 350 members were deployed.
