A father-son duo spent a lot of time in the basement during their shared ‘hobby’. There they grew 1,472 cannabis plants and built a large drug ring. The police were able to arrest the duo and also track down some major buyers, whose handcuffs also clicked.
During a search of a single-family home in Weißkirchen on August 10, a professionally operated cannabis cultivation plantation was found. In the basement of the house was the plantation with a total of 1,472 cannabis plants, 651 of which had inflorescences, as well as large quantities of cannabis herbs, hashish and mushrooms. The two suspects, a 49-year-old and a 19-year-old, were arrested on orders from the public prosecutor and transferred to Wels prison.
Conducted research into three major customers
The Upper Austrian State Police and the Wels-Land District Police were able to prove the production of approximately 18 kilos of cannabis herb and more than 2.5 kilos of hallucinogenic mushrooms. During the investigation, three major buyers were identified and arrested. On August 14, a 35-year-old was arrested in his apartment in Salzburg. During the search, a total of more than 1,000 grams of cannabis herb, approximately 34 grams of hashish, approximately 17.5 grams of cocaine and drug money were found and seized.
Cocaine and cash seized
Two other major buyers, a 47-year-old and a 49-year-old, both from the Wels-Land district, were arrested at their home addresses on August 22. Small amounts of cocaine and cash were seized during the search. Based on the 49-year-old’s statement, two additional buyers were identified. She also charged the 47-year-old with his own cannabis production.
On September 4, the apartment of a 42-year-old from Wels was also searched. Police were able to seize the 47-year-old’s cannabis farm and approximately 250 grams of cannabis. On the same day, the apartment of another 42-year-old from Wels was also searched. Cannabis herb, cocaine and cash were seized. He was arrested on the orders of the Wels public prosecutor’s office.
Arrested for supplying cocaine
A conversation with a 61-year-old Slovenian national was found on his mobile phone, apparently involving cocaine deliveries. A cocaine delivery that was already planned for September 8 was confirmed to him. He was eventually arrested while handing over 30 grams of cocaine. Investigators were also able to demonstrate that he imported and passed on approximately 1.5 to 2.3 kilos of cocaine on regular smuggling trips between September 2020 and September 2023. Two 34-year-old sub-distributors were arrested on the orders of the Welsh public prosecutor.
A total of nine people were arrested
Thanks to the targeted and rapid investigation by the officers of the LKA Upper Austria and the Wels-Land criminal investigation group, nine people involved in the production or trafficking of narcotics were quickly identified and arrested. During a total of seven searches, approximately 15,000 grams of cannabis herb, 330 grams of hashish, 50 grams of cocaine and 2,500 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms were seized and thus removed from circulation. Several drug users under investigation have been reported to the relevant prosecutor’s offices and district administrative authorities.
