In an avalanche accident in Vorarlberg near Lech am Arlberg, ten skiers were swept away by an avalanche and three of them were injured. Two of the winter sportsmen suffered serious injuries, the Vorarlberg police announced on Sunday evening.
The group was on their way with a 33-year-old ski guide towards the Juppenspitze when an avalanche erupted, dragging the skiers with it.
Some skiers had ABS backpacks
Three of the athletes were able to get out of the avalanche themselves, the state police in Vorarlberg discovered. The remaining skiers, some of whom were equipped with ABS backpacks, were not buried due to the small amount of snow.
At Christmas there had been an avalanche accident very close to the Arlberg – four people were injured. According to the police, there was a significant avalanche risk on Sunday.
