The economy of the Basque Country continued to grow last year 4.3%as determined by the Basque government, and employment 3.1%which presupposes the creation of some 30,000 jobsmore than the 26,000 he calculated.

The Basque Institute of Statistics-Eustat released this Monday the progress of its accounts for the fourth quarter of last year, showing that all sectors of the autonomous community’s economy grew, albeit at a slower pace than in 2021, when gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 5 , 9%.

On a quarterly basis, between October and December 2022, GDP grew by 0.4% compared to the three previous months and by 2.8% compared to the same period in 2021.

The number of full-time equivalent jobs projected for the last quarter of 2022 is 1.9% higher than in the last quarter of the previous year and on a quarterly basis the estimated increase is 0.1%.

These data, which will be filled in by Eustat on 3 March, confirm a slowdown in the growth of the Basque economy during 2022.

The estimates for this year are for GDP growth at the end of the year 2.1%two points less than the government expected before the effects of China’s economic slowdown, mainly due to the new outbreaks of covid and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

By 2023, unemployment is estimated to fall to 8.3%what the creation of some would mean 12,000 jobs.
