A man was seriously injured in a knife fight between two rival groups on the Praterstern in Vienna-Leopoldstadt on Sunday evening. Passersby saw that two groups of four to six people attacked each other in the Venetian Au with blank pistols. The argument shifted to Praterstern railway station, where the opponents engaged in a knife fight.
Before the police arrived around 7 p.m., those involved ran away. In the station area, officers found an unconscious man on the ground. He apparently had received numerous stitches in his upper body. The professional rescue service provided him with emergency medical care and took him to a hospital emergency room. He was already out of danger on Monday. Two of the victim’s brothers were also slightly injured by knives.
Knives and cartridge cases
Police found a knife in a dumpster and bullet casings at the scene. The detectives were also supported by the police service dog squad. In the Stuwerviertel, the officials arrested five young people or men between the ages of 15 and 27. Police found another knife on one of them.
Those arrested were Afghan nationals or people whose nationality could not be immediately determined. The victims may also be from Afghanistan. It was still unclear on Monday why this fight took place. The interrogations of those involved were still open.
