Despite the inflation, the willingness of Austrians to donate has not diminished. The top three topics mobilizing donations are children (34 percent), animal welfare and the environment (33 percent), and rescue organizations (24 percent). The amount that is donated most often per year remained unchanged at 100 euros. 17 percent are even long-term donors.
This is evident from a current online survey*, the results of which the Focus Institute presented on Tuesday. According to this, almost half (45 percent) of the Austrian population will have donated in 2022. This corresponds to the level of the last measurement from 2020.
Most donors in Austria only provide selective support (60 percent), while 17 percent are long-term donors. Almost every fourth donor supports both selectively and with a standing order.
Street beggars are supported financially by about 17 percent
Specifically, 34 percent of those surveyed stated that they made financial donations, while about 23 percent made in-kind donations. Almost a quarter of those surveyed indicate that they support them financially or in some other way, but only with people from their family and circle of friends. Street beggars receive financial support from about 17 percent and 14 percent of those surveyed do volunteer work.
In principle, however, the Austrians believe that one cannot make general statements about donations – whether donations are useful always depends on the purpose and the donation organization.
