World Economic Forum – Zelenskyy: “Don’t know if Putin is still alive”

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday that he does not know with whom to negotiate because he is not sure whether Russia’s head of state, Vladimir Putin, is still alive.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, one of the most renowned annual gatherings in the world, Selenskyj drew attention with unusual words:

He justified this statement by saying that it was incomprehensible to him how one could first promise something to the top European politicians and then start a war of aggression the next day. “I just don’t know who we’re dealing with,” he continued. Zelenskyj also made it clear that he did not know with whom to have “peace talks” – “with whom?” he wondered. “I think Russia should find someone first and then offer something,” he concluded.

During his tenure, Ukraine made every effort to liberate the country through diplomatic means and was always ready to talk. “But they didn’t want to, didn’t have time, didn’t believe us and didn’t set conditions,” Zelenskyj said.

The Kremlin said Russia and Putin are a big problem for Ukraine and its president. For Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov, there is a simple formula: the sooner Kiev shows its willingness to comply with Russia’s demands, the sooner the Ukrainian people will recover “from the tragedy orchestrated by the regime in Kiev”.

How likely are peace talks?
The Russian leadership has repeatedly declared its readiness for peace talks. According to her, there is no dialogue because of Kiev. At the same time, it was pointed out that negotiations could only take place on Russian terms – among other things, the return of the territories annexed by Moscow was not up for discussion. Ukraine, on the other hand, was not ready for ultimatums and negotiations with the current president of Russia.

According to the online newspaper Meduza, Putin does not want to give up his claims to Ukrainian territory. Allegedly, he is trying to buy time only with the prospect of negotiations – for the preparation of a new offensive at the front.
