In Argentina, a 12-year-old girl died last weekend during a test of courage on the social media platform TikTok. Tragic detail: a camera captured death by suffocation. The twelve-year-old’s aunt now wants to warn other parents and relatives.
“Your mother and I are heartbroken,” Laura Luque, aunt of the late Milagros Soto, wrote on Facebook. The girl died during a TikTok challenge over the weekend.
The Argentine newspaper “El Litoral” states that Milagros would have participated in the “Blackout Challenge”. The participants choke unconscious and film themselves. Milagros is said to have been seriously bullied at her school and asked via WhatsApp to take the courage test. For her pain, she would have completed the challenge twice without any problems.
However, she would not survive the third – relatives found the twelve-year-old lifeless in her nursery with a rope around her neck. The rescue service was only able to determine the girl’s death. School friends would have seen the girl choke during a video call. In addition, a camera would have captured the terrible scenes. An autopsy later confirmed that Milagros did indeed strangled himself. The autopsy report reads “Death by mechanical asphyxiation”.
Laura Luque made the case public on Facebook to warn other families. Under a photo of her niece, she wrote: “This is Milagros, my niece who was killed today during a TikTok challenge. Please share my post. Your mom and I are heartbroken.”
