Starring Marlon Bando – ‘The Godfather’ poster discovered in the home of the mob boss

Date:

In the apartment where mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, arrested Monday, was staying in Campobello di Mazara, Sicily, the Carabinieri also discovered a poster of Francis Ford Coppola’s film “The Godfather” starring American star Marlon Brando.

For days, detectives searched the village of Campobello di Mazara, where the “boss of bosses” Messina Denaro spent the last months of his 30-year escape.

Found another hiding place
A third hiding place was discovered in the western Sicilian community on Thursday afternoon. Notes and documents dating back to 2016 were found there. Phone numbers are now also being evaluated by the detectives. They want to identify helpers and accomplices who helped the boss escape.

Mafia boss was apparently a fan of the ‘godfather’
Found in the apartment where Denaro last hid, the movie poster is a close-up of Brando in his role as Vito Corleone. The Godfather is a 1972 American Mafia film based on the novel of the same name by Mario Puzo, who co-wrote the screenplay with director Coppola.

The film, starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, was nominated for eleven Oscars and won three. “The Godfather” was an extraordinary success at the box office and is one of the most artistically significant works in cinema history. The protagonist is Don Vito Corleone, one of the most powerful mob bosses in New York City and head of one of the five most powerful families.

Last big boss of the Cosa Nostra
Messina Denaro is considered the last big boss of Cosa Nostra, but also a link to the Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta, especially in the cocaine trade. The detectives hope that he will become a key witness to avoid the harsh prison conditions for prominent mafiosi. So far, however, the mafia boss has not shown any willingness to cooperate with the judiciary.
