The municipality of Schattendorf in Burgenland suffers enormously from traffic congestion caused by Hungarian commuters. On Friday there was a local inspection with the Ministry of the Interior.
Cautious confidence in Mayor Thomas Hoffmann. After he – as reported – fought for weeks to defuse the traffic problem at the border crossing, a solution is now coming. On Thursday there was an on-site inspection with representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the district administration, the police, the municipality and their legal adviser Johannes Zink from law firm HBA.
“The conversation was very focused, we made a big step forward,” Hoffmann said after the meeting. Within the framework of the StVO, a variant has been found that makes it possible to “selectively reduce” traffic. This only affects the municipal road, but not the crosswalk – the BMI had raised legal concerns here.
Ultimatum until March 1
There should be another date in the next 14 days for more precise coordination. However, Hoffmann wants to keep putting pressure on: if the solution is not found before March 1, there will be a roadblock, as already announced.
