It doesn’t matter if it’s ten degrees plus or minus – a “patient” has been waiting outside for weeks in front of the Donaustadt Clinic in Vienna. What the Lord wants there is unclear. They take care of him, but the gentleman categorically refuses treatment.
“An elderly gentleman has been lying on a bench in front of the Donauspital for days.” It was a disturbing call that only recently reached the ‘Krone’. And indeed: as direct photographs of the eyewitness prove, there is actually a man lying in front of the entrance to the hospital – with white hair and a beard, a sofa, a thick coat, blankets and shopping bags that he had brought with him.
No patient, man is here voluntarily
The Vienna Health Association was quick to disprove that it was a medical scandal, as the concerned caller suspected. Spokeswoman Marion Wallner argued against “Krone’s” initial assumption that it was a rejected patient.
On the contrary: the man has been “camping” in front of the hospital for weeks and does not want any treatment. The couch and blankets were provided to him by concerned doctors and nurses. And every night the man is pushed into a room near the entrance with his sofa to protect him from the freezing cold.
Lower Austrians do not want to return home
It is still unclear to all those involved what the regular guest wants exactly. Witnesses say that it concerns a Lower Austrian who – despite several offers – absolutely does not want to return to his homeland. “He talked about the European Convention on Human Rights,” someone says.
According to information from “Krone”, the confused man should also have an adult representative. But neither the police nor the hospital staff could do anything. Because the Lower Austrian has at least so far remained peaceful in the cold. And continues to produce rather strange images for passers-by and clinic staff.
