At least 10 people have died in one shooting occurred at the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations in the city of Monterey Park, east of Los Angeles, as confirmed by the county sheriff’s office. Another 10 people are injured, and at least one of them is very serious.
The incident began at the end of the Chinese community celebration, around 10:30 p.m. local time (7:30 a.m. in mainland Spain), according to witnesses quoted by the Los Angeles media, who are believed to be the shooting has racist overtones.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sergeant Bob Boese confirmed that the shooter is a man who is currently on the run from the authorities, as he disclosed at a press conference collected by the CBS chain’s local partner, KCAL News.
