On Friday evening, 17 vehicles from the Viennese professional fire brigade drove to the Simmeringer Flammweg. A large-scale fire broke out in the basement of a high-rise residential building. Twelve people required treatment and one resident was taken to hospital.
It was shortly after 11 p.m. when residents of the large apartment building on the corner of Flammweg and Muhrhoferweg sounded the alarm to the Vienna Fire Department – the smell of fire was in the air late in the evening! Because it is a high-rise building, the Florianis immediately went to the location with 17 vehicles and 67 emergency services.
Adjacent apartments searched
Two extinguishing lines have been installed on site to combat the fire. At the same time, fire brigade spokesman Lukas Schauer told the “Krone” that the affected stairs as well as apartments on the surrounding stairs were searched using respiratory protection.
Twelve residents treated
However, most of the residents had already fled outside. Twelve of them required treatment and one person was subsequently taken to hospital. It is still unclear whether there was arson. In any case, the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department has started an investigation.
