It happened as always happens when little children have an accident at home: the parents didn’t look for a moment. This time the accident happened in Pierbach in Mühlviertel, Upper Austria, where little Niklas stuck his hand in the meat grinder and was seriously injured.
Niklas’ 30-year-old mother from the Freistadt district was busy making breadcrumbs from old toast on Sunday morning. To do this, she placed the electric meat grinder on a mobile platform and filled it with dried bread.
Reached the opening
The meat grinder was already running when the two-year-old boy in an unnoticed moment climbed onto the platform and reached into the filling opening with his right hand. He touched the rotating screw conveyor with his fingers and the screw struck his ring and middle fingers and tore off a fingertip. The mother immediately helped her child, turned off the meat grinder and called the emergency services. After receiving emergency medical care, the boy was taken by rescue helicopter to the accident hospital in Linz.
