After a five-day “wave” in mid-January, activists around the last generation want to disrupt early traffic in Vienna for a few days from February 13 in order to continue to draw attention to current climate policy. Sticking to roadways will again be part of the protests.
The actions in January not only generated a lot of criticism from politicians, but apparently also a lot of encouragement from the Last Generation group. “More than 300 people have filled out our contact form and 70 to 80 of them are even willing to put themselves out on the street,” said a spokesman.
“Stay Nonviolent”
“The actions remain absolutely non-violent,” it said. There were 52 arrests and more than 200 reports during the last five-day protest in Vienna. The spokesperson does not say whether the actions in February will be comparable to those in January. There was also no information about the exact duration.
Accept fines
The activists of the last generation are calling for a “radical rethink” of the climate crisis. To draw attention to this, they use radical forms of protest, such as sticking to the street or dousing famous paintings with paint or soup. They also accept sanctions for this.
