During heavy snowfall on Tuesday afternoon, a motorist in western Styria went off the road and fell 50 meters into a forest. The injured Styrian endured nearly 20 hours before he was able to free himself and get help. He probably had a guardian angel, because the accident car was not visible from the street.
Shortly before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the fire brigade was alerted to an accident between Puchbach and Edelschrott (Voitsberg district). “When we arrived, the ambulance and the police were already there,” says Harald Sabetz, commander of FF Edelschrott, who was deployed along with comrades from FF Köflach.
The car involved in the accident was not visible from the street. “Only in the trees was a license plate.” It is a miracle that the driver survived the night at such temperatures. Because as it turned out, the accident had happened almost 20 hours earlier.
With a few blankets, the driver and his dog remained in the wreckage before he was able to free himself. A passing driver then set the rescue chain in motion. According to the Red Cross, the 40-year-old, who complained of severe pain and hypothermia, was transported to Graz Accident Hospital.
