Unbelievable: According to media reports, a 54-year-old ski tourer survived the night under the snow masses in South Tyrol’s Gadertal in the Fanes area after an avalanche. The man was airlifted to Bolzano hospital and is in critical condition.
The man left on tour alone on Thursday morning and did not return to his accommodation until evening. The alarm was raised around 10 p.m. and a search was launched, which had to be abandoned during the night. The man was finally rescued alive on Friday morning at 11:30 am.
The search is said to have expanded to a large area after the deceased Italian failed to communicate his exact destination. He was eventually located using an avalanche search device.
