Allotment gardeners in St. Valentin in Lower Austria are confronted with the ruins of their existence. Apparently they bought houses that were way too big. Prohibitively huge sums would cost a dismantling. In the region, 116 (!) homes are said to have been affected.
Two cases in St. Valentin in the Amstetten district are just the tip of the black construction iceberg in local allotments. Friedrich Schachafellner wanted to set up his retirement home and bought a house in the Erlabach allotment garden two years ago. Buildings there may not be larger than 37 square meters. But since it looked like almost every burrow was noticeably bigger, he wasn’t worried about that. A big mistake! It was promptly reported and authorities ordered it dismantled or scrapped. The man also has to pay a fine of 1,650 euros because he lives there illegally.
