Sounding sirens in East Tyrol: Several fire brigades had to turn out early Friday morning to St. Veit in the Defereggen Valley. There was a house built of wood in flames.
“A man was in the building, but was able to leave it himself and alerted the fire brigade,” Michael Grimm of the St. Veit fire brigade in Defereggental describes the operation. The 57-year-old man was taken to hospital with a suspicion of smoke inhalation. Fortunately, the all-clear could be given a little later. “He suffered no injuries,” Grimm continued.
The building was a total loss. The cause of the fire is still unknown and an investigation is underway. The local fire brigade will keep watch until Saturday morning. A total of 100 fire, police and Red Cross units were deployed.
