According to the expert, a “uterine rupture” was the cause of the death of the newborn Lukas. Missing warning mechanisms and “home use”.
After the tragic death of Lukas as a result of an emergency caesarean section at the Vöcklabruck clinic – reported the “Krone” – the question arises: have doctors made serious mistakes?
This is clear from the expert opinion commissioned by the judiciary of the obstetrics department. The expert Christoph Brezinka writes about a “sum of care violations” that led to a uterine rupture – this was “the cause of death of Lukas”.
There was “no medical evaluation”
In detail, there would have been “no specialist assessment” from the mother regarding the risk assessment. In addition, the drugs administered by the doctors are said to have “increased the risk of uterine rupture.” Warning mechanisms would be missing. A sentence from Brezinka makes you think: “With the knowledge you had afterwards, it is undoubtedly the case that it would have been better if a caesarean section had been performed earlier.” The expert concludes: “Decisions and actions taken that did not meet the expected standard”.
During the interrogations, the accused doctors called “home practices” according to which they acted. Victim lawyer Stefan Rieder emphasizes: “It seems as if domestic customs are placed above international standards.”
The investigation against two doctors and a midwife on suspicion of death by gross negligence is still ongoing.
