On Friday, a man was trapped in the British capital while working on a pop-up urinal and later succumbed to his injuries. The so-called telescopic urinal in London’s West End entertainment district can be raised and lowered and is usually released for use in the evening.
Despite a major rescue operation involving the fire brigade, police and emergency doctors, the man succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident, the police reported Friday afternoon. According to a spokesperson, emergency services were notified of the accident at 1:05 p.m. and the operation was completed at 3:41 p.m.
It was also reported that firefighters tried to free the man with a rescue winch. The background to the accident was initially unclear.
“His relatives have been notified,” the Metropolitan Police said.
The pop-up urinal is located near the Palace Theater where the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child premiered. Some roads in the area were closed and buses were diverted.
