For the second time in two weeks, a tiger has escaped from the South African capital – the latest case occurred in the suburb of Edenvale. Residents were warned about the big cat on Monday morning. In the meantime, the young animal could be caught again.
The tiger was spotted on surveillance video from an office campus in the early hours of Monday morning. The conservation authorities, together with reinforcements from the security forces, then went in search of the young big cat.
Tiger played with dogs in the yard
As Australian media reports, the animal has now been located and anesthetized. Gary Wilson of a security company hired to search for the tiger said the tiger was hopping from house to house in the Edenvale area. Social media showed how the young big cat played with dogs in a garden.
The escaped animal has since been recaptured and taken to a reserve.
Eight-year-old tiger euthanized after escape
Almost two weeks ago, an eight-year-old female tiger, Sheba, escaped from her enclosure on a small farm in southern Johannesburg. However, the incident was much less light for the animal – she was euthanized for safety. Before searchers could catch the big cat, he attacked a 39-year-old man who required hospital treatment. She also attacked a pig and two dogs – the latter had to be euthanized due to the severity of their injuries.
