Forsaken singles can name a cockroach after their ex-partner and feed it to animals at the Texas Zoo for Valentine’s Day. Participation in this curious fundraising campaign is possible worldwide, the San Antonio Zoo announced on Twitter on Sunday evening (local time).
Depending on the amount of the donation, interested parties can choose a cockroach or a rodent to be fed on the zoo’s website. There is also a vegetarian option – for five dollars a head of lettuce or cabbage can also be symbolically named after the ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend.
Greetings and video are available at an additional cost
Anyone who wants to inform their ex-partners of the retaliation can download a greeting card, it said. For 150 dollars (about 138 euros) there is also the option to receive a video of the feeding – including a personalized greeting.
The cockroaches and rodents are already dead at the time of feeding and will be included in the zoo’s feeding schedule regardless of the fundraiser.
“Zach”, “Ray” and “Adam” fed most often
Last year, more than 8,000 donations came in from the United States and more than 30 other countries around the world, zoo director Cyle Perez told CNN. Until now, the most commonly used names have been ‘Zach’, ‘Ray’ and ‘Adam’. Last year, the names “Jacob” and “Sarah” topped the list, according to the zoo.
