Shortage of skilled labor – security of supply as manager’s concern

Date:

Security of supply is one of the main concerns of domestic managers. According to a survey by Peter Hajek Public Option Strategies, one in five sees the topic as one of their biggest challenges. At the same time, only 13 percent of respondents agree with the statement “Security of supply of goods for everyday use is guaranteed in Austria in times of crisis”. In a survey last summer, twice as many people agreed. Managers are also concerned about the shortage of skilled workers.

“The decision-makers of the Austrian economy have significantly less confidence in the structures and instruments of security of supply in the country than six months ago,” said David Ungar-Klein, initiator of the Vienna Congress, according to a broadcast on Monday. . That’s an alarm signal. The security of supply must be fully guaranteed for both the location and the population.

Specialists in the IT sector are particularly popular
Managers are also concerned about the shortage of skilled workers. This is especially the case in the IT sector. 72 percent of companies say they lack skilled workers in this area. According to figures from the WKÖ Professional Association for Management Consulting, Accounting and Information Technology (UBIT), there is a shortage of around 24,000 IT specialists in Austria every year.

Little encouragement for restrictions on climate protection
When it comes to the climate crisis and climate protection, the majority of companies (80 percent) rely on investments in new technologies. Restrictions by the state, companies and private households are only supported by 18 percent.

The research was carried out in the run-up to today’s economic and political congress “Vienna Congress”, which brings together decision-makers from science, business and politics. 108 local managers were surveyed.
