Gas station robbed – gang of youths film themselves in action and get caught

Date:

After a nighttime robbery on January 14 at a gas station in Vienna-Hietzing, the agents were completely in the dark. Shortly after midnight, a video surfaced on social media showing four suspects fleeing after the robbery. The four teens filmed themselves doing what they did and posted the video to Instagram.

The detectives, who initially assumed there were two perpetrators, found out that four were probably involved in the robbery. All four were arrested late last week.

Service station operator threatened
The robbery happened around 11:15 p.m. A masked man entered the gas station store with his gun drawn and threatened the gas station attendant and a customer, demanding money. He fled with a higher three-figure sum. Apparently his accomplices had been waiting nearby with the car.

Shortly afterwards, a car got stuck in a grid square of the Lower Austrian State Police headquarters. The driver evaded arrest and ran away. The police followed the car and saw that there were at least three people in the car. They also noticed that one of them was filming the chase with his cell phone.

Fake license plate
After temporarily losing sight of the car, the officers stopped it in Perchtoldsdorf and arrested two boys, aged 17 and 18. They also found a gun, a backpack with cash and gloves in the car. The license plates on the car were fake.

Shortly after midnight, an officer saw the tracking video on Instagram. The video showed two suspects getting out when the police did not see the vehicle. Last Thursday and Friday, all four people involved (16, 17 and twice 18 years old) were arrested, two of them for the second time.
