Final extension – Biden wants to end the corona crisis in May

Date:

US President Joe Biden wants to lift far-reaching corona emergency measures in May. They were introduced in 2020 by then US President Donald Trump in response to the pandemic and extended several times by Biden. The administration informed the U.S. Congress in Washington on Monday that Biden would briefly extend both the national emergency and the public health emergency one last time, ending May 11.

For example, the emergency regulation allows the US government to give the states extra money to protect the health of the population and coordinate crisis management. With the lifting of the emergency ordinances, the US government is giving back its powers; most aid payments then also end. The time until May should now be used for an orderly transition.

representativeCommoners called for an immediate end to the measures
“An abrupt end to states of emergency would lead to widespread chaos and insecurity throughout the health care system — for the states, for hospitals and doctors’ offices, and most importantly for millions of Americans,” the statement said. The government is responding to two bills in the House of Representatives submitted by Republicans. They demand that the emergency regulations stop immediately, partly because they cost the state a lot of money.
