A court in India has sentenced a well-known guru to life imprisonment for rape. Asaram Bapu, 81, has been found guilty of repeatedly raping one of his former followers at one of his ashrams over a five-year period, the legal portal Bar and Bench reported Tuesday.
The convicted person must also pay the victim compensation of 50,000 rupees (564 euros).
This is the second sexual assault case in which Asaram Bapu has been convicted and imprisoned. The self-proclaimed godman is already jailed in a Jodhpur jail after a Rajasthan court found him guilty of a separate assault charge in 2018, India Today reports.
