‘Ndrangheta weakened – Snapped the next prominent mafia boss

Date:

One of the most prominent bosses of the ‘Ndrangheta, Edgardo Greco, who has been on the run since 2006, was captured in France. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for the double murder in 1991. A European arrest warrant has been issued against Greco.

During the raid in the French Saint Etienne, 45 million euros were also secured. Since 2019, assets worth more than €650 million have been confiscated from the ‘Ndrangheta alone, authorities said.

Powerful mafia association
The ‘Ndrangheta is one of the most dangerous, richest and most powerful mafia groups in Italy. It is said to control much of the global cocaine trade. Over the past three decades, the organization has expanded to northern Italy, where it uses companies for money laundering, among other things.

Italy has intensified the fight against organized crime. Two weeks ago, mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, who had been on the run for 30 years, was arrested. He was considered the number one of the Cosa Nostra in Sicily.
