A missing ski tourer in the Koralm area was found with severe hypothermia after a large-scale search, but alive. The 55-year-old, who has been missing since Thursday, was spotted by the crew of the police helicopter. After a daring landing, contact was made with the man. He is apparently unharmed, but after two nights outside he is severely hypothermic.
The sporty man is said to have left around noon on Wednesday for a ski trip in the Koralm area in the Styrian district of Deutschlandsberg. He parked his car in the Grünangerhütte parking lot. From there he continued on his own.
Borrowed mobile phone and informed friends
On Thursday afternoon, the 55-year-old met another mountaineer at the so-called chicken support at the Grillitschhütte. The 55-year-old informed an acquaintance on his mobile phone to cancel an appointment. The battery of his own mobile phone would have been empty. According to his own statements, the 55-year-old, who still looks very fit and is well rested, would have spent the night before in the mountains.
Not returned from his tour
After the man only returned to his car on Thursday evening and could not be reached by telephone, mountain rescue services and police services started a search. Demand for all smelters was initially negative. Darkness and weather conditions, including fresh snow, also hampered a nightly search, which had to be aborted around midnight for the time being without result.
Friday morning finally came the good news about the missing man. Mountain rescue comrades rushed to his aid, he should be taken to a hospital for health assessment.
