Eight robberies last year and two injured victims: The Pöttler group of the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Service, together with its center-eastern department and the Brigittenau city police, managed to solve a series of robberies. Eight youths between the ages of 14 and 16 were arrested as alleged perpetrators. The youth gang is said to have attacked their victims with verbal threats and, if necessary, also with violence.
The young people are accused of a total of eight robberies between September 2021 and April 2022. Police spokesman Markus Dittrich said on Friday that it mainly concerned cash, mobile phones, debit cards and Bluetooth headphones. Police estimate the total value of the stolen items at the middle of the four-digit range.
The boys carried out the robberies at the S-Bahn stations in the Leopoldstadt and Brigittenau districts and then used the express train to escape. The youth gang allegedly threatened their victims verbally in most cases, but in some cases they even pulled a knife.
43-year-old victim seriously injured
The victims were mainly young people between the ages of 16 and 20. However, in two cases they robbed significantly older men (30 and 43). Both men were injured during the robbery, the 43-year-old even suffered serious injuries when he was kicked in the head.
All eight suspects, from Austria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Russia, Turkey and Syria, refused to testify during the interrogation. They were taken to a prison on the orders of the Vienna Public Prosecution Service.
