The mother was left with only one letter: after the father’s weekend, a 56-year-old from the district of Steyr-Land (Upper Austria) was with his son. That was at the end of May. Now he reappeared with the boy.
On May 27, 2022, a 56-year-old from Steyr-Land County abducted his three-year-old son from his home address during his father’s weekend and likely took him abroad to get him out of the custody of his child’s mother. He left a letter announcing this. The mother then filed a police report.
After extensive investigation, the Steyr Regional Court issued a European Arrest Warrant against the child’s father for continued persecution. In addition, research has been carried out into the neglect of minors.

State detectives found that the 56-year-old had probably fled to Greece with his son in the first place. After extensive correspondence abroad and increasing search pressure, he was contacted in January and, upon repeated contact, was persuaded to return to Austria.
On February 2, 2023, in the presence of the child and youth services of the BH Steyr-Land, the detectives of the LKA Upper Austria arrested the father upon arrival at Vienna Airport and placed the boy under medical supervision. The arrested was transferred to Garsten Prison.
