Morality guards in Iran – forced headscarves must be monitored with cameras

Date:

For months, hardly any moral guards have been patrolling the streets of Iran. According to a media report, these are now being replaced by traffic cameras. Because the Iranian authorities apparently intend to monitor the headscarf obligation with video surveillance.

The parliament’s Justice Committee wants to extend the monitoring already used in road traffic to public spaces, the newspaper “Etemad” reported on Friday. Firstly, women should be warned of violations by text message. Repeated ignoring leads to sanctions.

Already in early January, “Etemad” reported on criminal justice reforms for violations of Islamic dress codes. Social hours, retraining courses, travel bans, work restrictions and fines were discussed at the time.

The wave of protests has subsided
The wave of protests that have swept through the country since the death of Iranian Kurd Jina Mahsa Amini has abated in recent weeks. Opposition to the system is increasingly taking the form of civil disobedience. Many women in the metropolises of Iran no longer wear headscarves at all.
