Forged document – man pretended to lose his driver’s license for years

Date:

Because he only has a B driving license but regularly drove a heavy trailer, a 49-year-old Viennese pretended to lose his “lid” – and did so for three years. The trained eye of a traffic police officer now caused a lot of trouble for a Viennese in Krems (Lower Austria).

The 49-year-old, who towed a large fully loaded trailer with a car, did not hand over a driver’s license to the experienced officer during a traffic check, but a report of a missing person. But the man in uniform recognized it as a fake – albeit a well-made one. A short time later it was clear: the man does indeed have a driver’s license.

Only valid for four weeks
However, the Viennese had actually received the message of loss – albeit three years ago when he had lost his “cap”. After that, however, he regularly had to adjust the date of the document, which was only valid for four weeks. But why did he do it at all if he already has a driver’s license? The curious reason: he only has the B driving license, but would have needed class E for his journey.

Jail sentence instead of fine?
The police assume that he has made regular transport trips in recent months, for which the 49-year-old was not in possession of a driver’s license. Doubly bitter for him: if he had shown his driver’s license, he would have been fined. Now he is charged with forging specially secured documents – and that means up to two years in prison…
