Dangerous operation – mudslide caused a roadblock in Tyrol

Date:

Snowfall on the mountains, heavy rainfall in the valley: the latter caused problems on Saturday night in Kramsach in Tyrol (Kufstein district). A road had to be closed after a mudslide. The slope threatened to slide further.

Shortly before 4 a.m. on Saturday, the sirens of the Kramsach volunteer fire brigade sounded! On Aschauer Straße between the Kreuzbach and the Sonnwendbachl, a driver reported a mudslide. “When we arrived, the road was already partially built. We then secured and lit the area and entered the area to get an overview,” reports FF commander René Arzberger.

Other landslides toppled large trees – it was too dangerous to intervene, also because of the darkness. The road was closed in both directions.

No injuries, road clear again
Luckily no one was hurt, probably due to time. The driver who reported the debris flow was also able to turn around unharmed. Employees of the municipal construction site have been on duty since the morning hours to clear the road and carry out security work.

“We managed to move the creek near the demolition point. The slope wasn’t so soaked anymore and the danger had passed,” says Arzberger. The roadblock was lifted on Saturday morning and the road was open to traffic.
