The very dangerous avalanche situation in Austria claimed a fatal accident in Vorarlberg. In Kleinwalsertal a man was hit by snow masses, he could only be found dead on Saturday.
According to the Vorarlberg rescue and fire control center (RFL), the man had been wanted in Kleinwalsertal since Friday evening. The man in his mid-fifties was found dead under snow masses late Saturday morning in the Walmendinger Alpe area, apparently he had been hit by an avalanche.
There have also been continuous reports of avalanches in Tyrol since this morning. At around 10:30 a.m., the Tyrolean control center reported an avalanche in St. Anton am Arlberg, in which two people were buried, according to initial information.
Experts warn of major avalanche danger
Snowfall and wind have dangerously increased the avalanche risk in Tyrol and Vorarlberg. Experts from the avalanche warning services from both states called on winter sports enthusiasts to be very careful. Inexperienced skiers are currently not allowed to leave the slopes. At higher elevations, there was a widespread level four avalanche danger on the five-point scale on Saturday.
