A German and her Iraqi partner are said to have supported the terrorist group Islamic State (IS). A court in Stuttgart sentenced the two 31-year-olds to several years in prison on Wednesday.
Both would have been IS members and would have violated the Foreign Trade Act, among other things. The man is also accused of preparing a serious act of violence that endangers the state. In early 2021, he tried to leave Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl to go to Sudan to fight for IS there or in Syria. The native Iraqi was arrested when he left the country.
Money transferred to terror group
In the trial in Stuttgart he was sentenced to six years in prison. In addition, he and his German partner would have collected and transferred money for the terrorist group in Syria. According to the federal prosecutor’s office, the 31-year-old woman’s main task was to contact female IS members and inform them about the status of the money transfers. The women must be “strengthened in their loyalty to the Union”.
The suspected woman from Upper Bavaria was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison. The mother of three minor children was arrested at the end of August 2021 and then arrested. The couple and the federal prosecutor can still appeal. The statements are therefore not final.
