Cold-blooded murder on Wednesday on the open street on the outskirts of Vienna – the shooter targeted the bloody act itself. The first background …
Two shots echo through Etrichstrasse in Vienna-Simmering. Moments later, two men lie dead on the icy ground, a trickle of blood flows down the street. The photo is reminiscent of a duel in the Wild West, but this duel is unequal – only one had a weapon: Orhan S., 46, fired at his rival, then at himself. Despite the rapid alerting of the emergency services, help came too late for the victims and perpetrators.
The perpetrator and victim have been friends for years
The rival is the then gifted professional footballer Volkan Kahraman, who was also allowed to wear the jersey of the Austrian national team three times in the early 2000s. Most recently, the 43-year-old was associated with the Viennese lower house association Ostbahn XI. He and his killer – an entrepreneur who was also in the football world – would have known each other for years and were even good friends. Tragically, they last met on Wednesday.
The two men got into an argument in a cafe a stone’s throw from the later crime scene. The conflict shifted to Etrichstrasse – with fatal consequences. What prompted the escalation is the subject of the investigation.
Tumult am Tatort
The police moved in with a large contingent and cordoned off the area over a wide area. The terrible news quickly spread not only in the neighborhood, but also in the football field and the community of Turkish origin. And so more and more people flocked to the crime scene, where the atmosphere quickly flared up among the relatives and friends of the victim and the perpetrator. There was yelling, crying, bullying – and fists flying. The police had their hands full trying to get the situation under control.
At the same time, detectives from the state criminal investigation department began their work, collecting clues and securing the gun. For them the matter is clear, only the question of motive remains. In the crowd at the scene, two words are used: money and jealousy. Only witness interviews can clarify this.
