Three decades ago, a Carinthian farmer’s son got nothing when he handed over the farm: hatred of his family consumed him – until he wanted to cut off his sister’s head!
An ordeal like a folk game from Anzengruber: Eight children grow up on a Carinthian ancestral farm. The eldest son thinks – as is actually usual – to take over the farm. But the parents hand it over to a younger brother – presumably because the son is severely hard of hearing after contracting mumps as a child.
30 years of bad mood in the family
“Instead of the inheritance, he only got the right of residence and fled into alcohol,” says prosecutor Markus Kitz. “For 30 years, the relationship in the family has deteriorated further and further. Until it escalated.”
Sister ran for her life
The 55-year-old increases his hatred. He begins to hear voices. When a sister wants to go back into the big garden, he catches a hoe, chases after the woman and tries to kill her several times: “I ran for my life,” she says. “He yelled: I’ll cut your head off!”
Fortunately, this did not happen – no one was hurt, the brother was arrested. And also investigated: according to expert Franz Schautzer, the man is not healthy, but there are further criminal offenses to be feared. Therefore, he should not be punished, but instructed.
He must have felt left out
“Weren’t you afraid of your brother before?” a juror asked the victim. “No,” she says honestly. “He was always a little different and probably felt neglected and left out because of his hearing loss.”
adjourned.
