The British King Charles III. wants to make a speech in the German Bundestag on 30 March. He and his wife Camilla want to visit Berlin and Hamburg from March 29 to 31.
Katja Mast, first parliamentary secretary of the SPD group, told the German Press Agency (dpa) on Thursday: “I am pleased that the British leader, King Charles III. will speak in the Bundestag.”
“Particularly important for Europe”
The German-British friendship is “of very special importance for Europe and the world, especially after Brexit and at the time of Putin’s imperialist war of aggression in Ukraine, which violates international law,” Mast said. Charles received Ukrainian President Zelenskyj at Buckingham Palace on February 8 (see video above).
In mid-January, the Stern had already reported that King Charles III. and his wife Camilla wanted to travel to Germany – they want to visit Berlin and Hamburg from March 29 to 31. Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the report when asked.
Visit before coronation in May
Charles has been the British monarch since the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8 last year. His coronation is scheduled for early May. As heir to the throne, Charles was a frequent guest in Germany – most recently on the day of national mourning in November 2020. At the central commemoration in the Bundestag, he recalled the deep partnership between Great Britain and Germany. On May 6, King Charles III. officially crowned.
